manipulation

so i realize that all of my thoughts sound well, pretentious and ignorant. and they probably all are. i admit.
but the problem with me is that everything must always be beautiful.
yes. this is a problem.
so writing colloquial words just look unpretty to me.

it's high time i explained this.

what i really wanted to talk about here was the manipulation that music has on our emotional state.
particularly in the CCM scene. (that's Christian Contemporary Music for all of you who don't live in a Bible belt part of the globe.)
has anyone ever noticed the incredibly piano-saturated chorus lines that make you feel like you simply CANNOT be a Christian if you do not raise your hands at particular points? it's as if you are supposed to feel these shivers when the song climaxes and all of a sudden you feel like you're drifting and the Holy Spirit is leading you.
Yes, the Holy Spirit moves people, but often i feel so manipulated by the music that i can't tell the Holy spirit from the air conditioning and piano chords. as a church goer, i'm becoming a cynic towards modern worship.

hey kid
no judgement here, juuust contemplation. but don't you think the pretense lies not in colloquial words but rather a limited perspective of beauty?
